New Course – Preparing for Ofsted in Primary Computing. Fully funded course

Quick Navigation

Feb 22 2022

Working in partnership with Teach Computing, we are excited to offer you the following courses

Outstanding computing for all and Assessing Primary computing

The courses are fully funded by the DfE.

More information about Teach Computing can be found here

These courses have been arranged following consultation with subject curriculum leads who requested support with Ofsted training.

We will kickstart the sessions with a Primary IT Network meeting on the 1 March from 3.45 – 4.15.

The dates for the session are

15 March 3.45 -5.15

29 March 3.45 – 5.15

26 April 3.45 – 5.15

10 May 3.45 – 5.15

These four sessions have the following aims for participants:

  • To give every child an outstanding computing education in primary school.
  • To consider how cultural and other influences affect outcomes in computing, including the impact on girls and other groups of children.
  • To use a range of sources of evidence to examine the relationship between computing and the rest of the curriculum, leading to better integration of this relatively new subject.
  • To plan how to raise the knowledge and digital skills of your colleagues, ensuring positive attitudes towards computing in all areas of the curriculum.
  • To take time, with support, to consider how your school’s computing curriculum would stand up to scrutiny, and how you can provide equitable and inspirational learning for every child in authentic, collaborative and engaging contexts.
  • To know how to improve knowledge of your pupils through a range of in-lesson and summative assessment approaches and confidently evaluate learning in computing in ways that complement teaching across all subjects.
  • To find out what is different about computing, ensuring that your assessment of programming knowledge and skills is accurate.
  • To consider how to assess computational thinking – the key capability to solving problems using computers.
  • To consider how to apply techniques and tools that work within your own school’s wider context.

Funding arrangements – Note that each school will receive a £220 bursary (money that can be put towards the development of Computing in your school) when their computing lead completes the course (only one bursary per school), and participants will each receive a BCS (British Computer Society) recognised certificate of primary computing after also completing a short online module. Each school will be invoiced with £65 for the course and thus a net £155 bursary will be received.
