Local authorities and governing bodies must set dates in line with the requirement of the length of the school year as set out by the school day and school year regulations. The local authority sets term dates for community schools, with academies, foundation and voluntary-aided schools setting their own term dates.
Regulations are already in force to reduce the minimum number of sessions schools are required to meet in the academic year 2021/22, to enable everyone to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen on 3 June 2022. The effect of these regulations is to reduce the minimum number of sessions that schools must provide in the school year 2021-2022 from 380 to 378.
Many schools, including all community schools in H&F, will already have their half term break in the week commencing 31 May 2022 and will therefore have no need to make any amendments to their published dates. For all other schools, if the additional bank holiday falls during term time, they should observe the bank Holiday and may therefore need to make adjustments to their published dates.
