H&F is educating residents in the borough on the topics of climate change ahead of COP26 in Glasgow. A range of activities took place at The Grove Neighbourhood Centre, Hammersmith on Wednesday 27th October.
The ‘Things we use’ art workshop led by Araceli Gomez Castro, from the Royal College of Art (RCA), allowed young people to explore ways to create sculptures and everyday-life objects with different biodegradable materials. These included clay, cotton, marble and types of hardwood and softwood. Whilst being creative, the young children were introduced to some child-friendly historical and anthropological concepts, where they were asked to think about the materials origin, scale, ecofootprint and alternative uses.
‘This is the coolest thing I’ve ever made!’ said William, a young participant at the workshop.
‘It was great to see the young people engaged with the workshop, reflecting and learning about the materials used, and wanting to help contribute to making a greener London’ said Araceli, RCA workshop lead.
