New government guidance on self-isolation and close contact rules published

The government has today published new guidance, entitled COVID-19: people with COVID-19 and their contacts, detailing what those testing positive for Covid-19 and their close contacts should now do, in light of the lifting of Covid-19 laws.

In line with this, Actions for early years and childcare providers guidance now directs providers to this new guidance, which is effective immediately, on issues relating to self-isolation and close contact.

While those testing positive for Covid-19 are no longer legally required to self-isolate, the new guidance states that "if you have any of the main symptoms of COVID-19 or a positive test result, the public health advice is to stay at home and avoid contact with other people."

The document also provides information on:

  • The symptoms of COVID-19
  • What to do if you have COVID-19
  • What to do if you are a close contact of someone who has COVID-19
  • Wellbeing and practical support while you are staying at home.
