Initial teacher training (ITT) in early years settings and schools

We encourage you to continue to host trainee teachers again this year. Hosting a trainee can support you to meet your existing and future recruitment needs, as well as offering excellent professional development opportunities for your existing workforce and providing opportunities for them to hone their leadership and mentoring skills.

For those settings already hosting trainee teachers, we strongly encourage you to continue this academic year. If you are not already hosting trainee teachers, local ITT providers can help you explore the opportunities available. Please contact itt.engagement@education.gov.uk and we will support you to partner with local training providers.

Alternatively, you can find and contact local training providers directly by using the find teacher training service.

Please review your recruitment needs and consider if you have capacity to support the employment of early career teachers. You can post vacancies on Teaching Vacancies, the free, national job listing service for schools and trusts. The department is also running social media campaigns aimed at raising awareness amongst the teaching community about this service.
