At the LGC Awards on Wednesday 4 November, H&F was highly commended in the climate response category for their work around Climate Education showcasing our commitment to rise to the challenge of the climate and ecological emergency.

With COP26 dominating the headlines and the Climate Carnival having just come to a close, the need to act now has never been more evident. And with our commitment to climate being one of our six council values, it just makes us all the prouder to be acknowledged at this prestigious event for leading the way in our response.

Children and young people are at the heart of our climate strategy, as their future will be most affected by decisions taken today. A series of climate and ecology projects, guidance and activities, developed with local schools, voluntary organisations, businesses and residents, are inspiring children, young people and their families to be powerful advocates for action.

Jan Parnell, Director of Education, said: "We are so proud that H&F received due recognition for their crucial work around Climate Education."

Tara Baig, Headteacher at Miles Coverdale School, said: I am delighted that the LGC Awards recognised our achievements in the Climate Response category with such a high calibre of competition! Hammersmith & Fulham LBC have supported Miles Coverdale Primary and all schools in the Borough to prioritise and develop our climate change education initiatives over a number of years and is now at the forefront of our children's education. Our climate change curriculum is enabling our children and staff to make powerful choices that can have a positive impact for the future.

A wonderful accolade that the LGC Awards gave us the 'Highly Commendable' recognition- well deserved for all the efforts in Hammersmith & Fulham LBC!

H&F also took home the win in the Future Places category. Sharon Lea, Strategic Director of Environment, said: "We're so excited to have our work acknowledged with the Future Places award. I want to thank each and every person who contributed, and continues to contribute, to our vision to build a better borough for our residents."

This year, H&F led the LGC Award shortlist with finalists in 8 categories – more than any other local authority. A big shout out to all the teams who helped us to achieve such an excellent result in 2021! We can't wait to see what we'll achieve next year
