Youth Singing Group – Opera Holland Park

Quick Navigation

Feb 4 2022

Please see below an opportunity from one of the Music Hub Partners that is focused on looked after children, those from vulnerable backgrounds, and on pupil premium. It would be appreciated if you can circulate this within your school leads working with young people.

This spring, Opera Holland Park (OHP) is excited to offer a new Youth Singing Group as part of their ongoing development of engaging and widening access to more young people in the world of opera and all that happens behind the scenes (read more here about their community work).

Open to young people aged 8-13 in West London, the new Youth Singing Group will offer them the chance to explore music, make friends, and build up their confidence. Participation is FREE.

The group is open to all young people, with OHP wishing to strongly encourage those who may not have previously had access to this kind of opportunity; for example children who are looked-after, from vulnerable backgrounds, and who are in receipt of pupil premium funding. We need the help of education professionals in schools and in LAs to help this message reach the right people to maximise impact of this opportunity.

The choir will be led by professional singers and musicians who will lead the group in learning songs from the OHP season, and creating new songs around the stories they tell.  There will be a no-pressure performance on the OHP stage in the summer, and we'd love many young people to join the group. The start date is 26th February.  The schedule for 2022 is below. The ones in red are the ones that will be held in person, and the rest will be online.

  • FEBRUARY: 26th (venue TBC) It will include getting-to-know-you games, warm-up activities, and starting to explore our first song from ‘Carmen’.
