The Havens are a network of specialist sexual assault referral centres (SARCs) located across London and open 24/7. Their three centres work closely together to ensure that the same level of service is provided wherever a victim of sexual assault presents. The Havens are centres of excellence and their work is internationally recognised as gold standard in the field. Since opening in 2000, they have welcomed more than 20,000 people for specialist care after rape or sexual assault.

Learning outcomes 

By the end of the course participants will have knowledge of the following:

  • What is involved in a forensic medical examination?
  • What other services are offered at the Havens.
  • When and how to refer to the Havens vs local Child Sexual Abuse Hub.
  • Referral pathways and signposting to specialist services.
  • Forensic vs child sexual abuse medical examinations.
  • Medical and emotional support following an allegation of sexual abuse/assault.
  • Interactive sessions with the opportunity to bring in a “grey case” for discussion.
