Healthy Early Years London (HEYL)

Quick Navigation

Sep 26 2024

Building on the success of the Healthy Schools London , the Mayor of London introduces the Healthy Early Years London (HEYL) programme. This initiative is part of the city’s Oral Health Programme in line with Ofsted guidelines.

Healthy Early Years London  aims to tackle health inequalities by supporting a healthy start in life with a focus on healthy eating, oral and physical health, and early cognitive development. The programme complements and enhances the statutory Early years foundation stage  framework, with extra emphasis on children, families and staff health and wellbeing.

These are the 4 levels of HEYL awards designed to improve and support practice in all Early Years settings:

  • First Steps
  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold

These awards are open to support practice in all early-years settings:

  • Private, voluntary and independent nurseries
  • Children’s centres
  • Childminders
  • Early Years in schools including schools with two-year-old provision
  • Nursery schools
  • Crèches and Stay & Plays

We encourage all settings to get involved!
